Morning Thoughts.

Howdy Friends! Heavy hazy air filtered into the barn. Rosie seemed not to notice as she tugged hay, and chomped sleepy eyed. Fluffernutter took no time in leaping onto my lap, settling into a tight ball and firing up her, "purrrr machine." Lady stretched out flat on her belly. I poured another cup of steaming coffee.

With the heavy air the sounds of the forest traveled gently this morning ... I thought about how different the summer sounds are from early spring. Today we heard the a Towhee sing, "Drink Your Tea" and a Carolina Wren chatter and let go a few notes of his flute melody. The real flautist though is the Wood Thrush and he offered up a long symphony today. Wonderful cheerful music, especially when the Catbird adds a few hodgepodge of mixed snippets … But this morning's performance seemed mellow, almost easy going as if adjusting their tempo to the hot lazy days of summer. So different that the eager, excited and hopeful choruses of the spring songs of Cardinals, Blue Birds, Robins, Red Eyed Vireos and Chickadees. Have a blessed hazy, lazy, Summer’s day! ~ Gitty Up, Dutch.
